San Francisco Part 3

During our travels we have accumulated a few bits and pieces that we thought we might send home as well as our warm weather gear which we will be no longer needing once we hit San Francisco. What should have been an easy task didn't quite turn out that way. I had emailed Ben and asked his advice and he gave us some good advice but when it all came down to it, sending stuff home just turned out too bloody difficult and/or expensive. We spent a good proportion of the morning investigating options to finally decide to buy another small bag and check it in, as it would only cost another $35 for the the last part of our trip for each flight compared to $100s for each flight in overweight luggage costs or by sending it home. Problem solved now we could enjoy the rest of our day.

After finally making a decision about the luggage situation we made our way to the ferry wharf for a trip across the water to Sausalito and Muir Woods. By this time it was nearly midday so we weren't sure if we would make to Muir Woods but a nice trip across the water was what was needed to enjoy our last day  in San Francisco.

The ferry trip is not too long and we arrived at Sausalito just in time for lunch. We found a nice seafood restaurant and managed to get a table outside with a view across the bay. A lovely relaxed lunch with a couple of glasses of wine (that was me) and we all felt better.

After lunch we realised that we were not going to get to Muir Woods as it was too late so we decided on a bit of shopping and a short walk around the waterfront. The town had a really nice feel to it and we wished we had ventured over here before now as it was much more enjoyable to wander around.
We saw some interesting houseboats in the marina one looking like an imitation of the Taj Mahal. Very interesting indeed.

We finally made our way back to the ferry and the one to get on was so long, then we realised that it was the people with bikes going back to San Francisco that was the long one. A popular thing to do is to hire bikes and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge and then come back on the ferry or vice versa. There were hundreds of them! The main company we could see hiring the bikes was one called Blazing Saddles! I think they would have a pretty good business judging from the amount of people we saw. Although some people choose to go back by car and we were amazed at how many bikes one rack would hold.

As we are waiting for the ferry we looked up and an eerie fog was starting to come down from the top os the hill above us. Still very high in the sky but moving in a big line across the skyline and over the houses. It was amazing to watch it move over the houses. So much for their water views once that fog rolled in.

We arrived back in the city and caught a cab back to our hotel ready to pack for the next leg of our trip to Toronto to see Niagara Falls.
